Games Maker in the making

Malavika Thirukode is an alumnus of the School. She studied for an MSc in Control of Infectious Diseases in 2009-10 and has since been living in London working in the charity sector. She is now taking on a new challenge as a Games Maker at London 2012... Award for text message research which helps smokers quit

Research led by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine which uses text messages to help smokers quit has won a national award. Since being published in The Lancet, the “txt2stop” study, which has been proven to double quit rates, has been rolled out as a service across England and has now been named the 2011 Royal College of General Practitioners and Novartis Research Paper of the Year.
