Where do mosquitoes sleep? If I get bitten a lot, will I still have enough blood left?
These were just two of the questions curious 11 year-olds asked medical entomologist Ailie Robinson yesterday.
Ailie enthralled the Year 6 class at Thames Ditton Junior School with details of the anatomy and behaviour of mosquitoes, followed by a quiz and a ‘make your own mozi’ workshop. The children worked in groups of three to pilot a prototype mosquito model, developed by product designer Andrew Forkes. They created a colourful swarm in just an hour, and gave some useful feedback for the development of the model: ‘you should have given us one model to make each, so we don’t fight about who gets to take it home!’
We are now looking for more volunteers of all ages to test the mosquito model and give us feedback. If you are interested and think you have the manual dexterity of an 11 year-old, please contact Vickie.email@example.com
