{"id":1286,"date":"2015-11-23T21:43:51","date_gmt":"2015-11-23T20:43:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/alsfordlab\/?p=1286"},"modified":"2015-11-27T21:34:42","modified_gmt":"2015-11-27T20:34:42","slug":"deltas-programme-up-and-running-at-waccbip-university-of-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/alsfordlab\/2015\/11\/23\/deltas-programme-up-and-running-at-waccbip-university-of-ghana\/","title":{"rendered":"DELTAS programme at WACCBIP, University of Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the 12th\/13th November the WACCBIP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wellcome.ac.uk\/Funding\/Biomedical-science\/Funded-projects\/Major-initiatives\/Developing-excellence-in-leadership-training-and-science-initiative\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">DELTAS<\/a> programme inception meeting took place in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ug.edu.gh\/bcmb\/\" target=\"_blank\">Biochemistry, Cell &amp; Molecular Biology<\/a> department at the University of Ghana, Accra. This five year programme led by Dr Gordon A. Awandare is funded by the Wellcome Trust to provide PhD and post-doctoral opportunities to African scientists in Africa in partnership with several international institutions. The programme is currently accepting applications for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waccbip.org\/2015\/10\/05\/west-african-centre-for-cell-biology-of-infectious-pathogens-college-of-basic-and-appied-sciences-university-of-ghana-new-postdoctoral-fellowship-programme\/\" target=\"_blank\">post-doctoral fellowships<\/a> (closing date 30th November 2015) and the call for applications to the PhD stream will be released soon.<\/p>\n<p>The DELTAS programme is based at the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.waccbip.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">WACCBIP<\/a>) set up by Gordon with support from the World Bank. However, it is a pan-African programme with projects available at several other African institutions \u2013 PhD students and post-doctoral scientists will be able to work with groups at WACCBIP, MRTC (Mali), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrc.gm\/\" target=\"_blank\">MRC<\/a>\u00a0( The Gambia), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kemri.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">KEMRI<\/a> (Kenya) and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uct.ac.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Cape Town<\/a> (South Africa).
