It is with great sadness that we announce that alumnus Professor Fereydoun Amini (Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene 1962; PhD 1965-70) passed away on August 20 2015.
Professor Amini worked tirelessly on planning and executing Public Health programmes including the introduction of Primary Health Care systems in the Middle East and Asia. He worked with the World Health Organization (WHO) on regional and international projects and also lectured at Tehran University. He was a member of the Iranian relief team for control measures on epidemic diseases following the cyclone disaster in Bangladesh during 1971 and presented in Iran at numerous international conferences and events on Public Health themes. During the latter stages of his career, he worked increasingly with WHO as a consultant and represented WHO in Laos PDR in the 1990s, before his retirement. He leaves behind his wife Shahla and his two children.
