This week’s Alumni Profile features Anna Ndiaye, who graduated from the School in 2013 with a PGCert in Global Health Policy. Anna now works as the Clinical Assessor in Oncology at the National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety in France.
Anna chose to study at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine because of its reputation and high standard level courses. Likewise, Anna was also interested in the international dimension of the School that offers a network of alumni from all over the world.
During her time at the School, Anna experienced the challenges that can come along with studying by distance learning. In the beginning, Anna felt alone. As time went on using the Moodle tool to exchange with other students and tutors, she began to feel a part of a community which helped greatly.
In addition to studying, Anna completed her PGCert while working. Juggling both work and study did result in a challenging work-life balance but she managed to overcome the difficulties by having strict organisation and discipline. Not to mention, having the great understanding of her husband was also very helpful.
Having a certificate from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in global health is of great value in Anna’s current stage in her career. The certificate has allowed for a new career path, which aims to help ensure availability of safe and affordable medicines by overcoming the challenges of globalisation.
Furthermore, the time spent studying at the School provided Anna with the opportunity to build relationships that helped her in her reflection to build a successful career for herself by providing her with valuable input.
To date, Anna’s greatest achievement has been her contribution in setting up an international research platform, which aims to develop novel therapies for the treatment of children with cancer. Anna hopes to use the knowledge gained during her global health training to contribute to improving access to safe medicines, particularly for children with cancer in the developing world.
Anna hopes current and prospectus students engage fully in their training as the knowledge they will acquire will be a tremendous asset to achieve their professional goals wherever they are in the world. Anna is very proud to be an alumna of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
