Safety

Clothing

It’s a good idea to make yourself as visible as possible when cycling, to increase the chances of you being seen by other road users. There’s a vast range of bright cycling specific clothing out there, but if you don’t want to invest too heavily in gear then a basic high visibility jacket from a hardware store is worth considering. Attempting to cycle in high heels is difficult, so flat shoes are advisable. You may also wish to consider investing in a cycle helmet.

Lights

Whether you like to get to the School early, or leave late at night, if you’re cycling in the dark you should make sure you’re bike is equipped with lights – both front and back.

Training

Many London boroughs now offer free adult cycle training for beginners or more advanced cycling. Details are available on the Bikeabilitywebsite. There is also some useful information on the Transport for London website.
