Starting on the 8th October – this marks the start of the\u00a0Fifth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research<\/a>; a full and diverse\u00a0programme<\/a>\u00a0addressing the theme of \u2018Advancing health systems for all in the SDG era\u2019 from 8-12th\u00a0<\/sup>October in Liverpool, UK. This conference is hosted by Health Systems Global.<\/p>\n

With both of our editors-in-chief, Sandra Mounier-Jack and Virginia Wiseman, and many of our section editors in attendance,\u00a0Health Policy and Planning<\/em>\u00a0(HPP) have several activities and resources to point to, taking place in honour of this week\u2019s theme and beyond.<\/p>\n

1.We will have a booth with Oxford University Press in the conference centre. You can find us at booth 60<\/strong> and come to us to check out our recent materials<\/strong> including our\u00a0Achieving integration for stronger health systems: lessons from integrating sexual & reproductive health and HIV services<\/a>\u00a0supplement led by Dr Susannah Mayhew (LSHTM) and Experiences of African health system leadership and its development<\/a>\u00a0supplement led by Prof Lucy Gilson (University of Cape Town).<\/p>\n

2. We have a pre-read article collection<\/strong><\/a> for the conference available online. This collection of articles explores the key themes of the Fifth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research highlighting key research in relation to Sustainable Development Goals, universal health coverage, and health systems.<\/p>\n

3. We have organised a \u2018Meet the Editors\u2019<\/strong> session to take place during lunchtime on 10th<\/sup> October at booth 60<\/strong> \u2013 please feel free to come along if you wish, Sandra and Virginia will be answering author queries and you may also discuss our open call for papers, in collaboration with Health Systems Global.<\/p>\n

4. We have a Call for Papers<\/strong> open jointly organised by the journal\u00a0Health Policy and Planning<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0and the organizer of the Fifth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research (HSR2018) \u2013\u00a0Health Systems Global<\/a>. This call is intended for those who have had conference abstracts and\/or presentations accepted for HSR2018. Authors should submit their abstract ID for their presented paper along with their submission to check for eligibility. Accepted papers will be published as a special journal supplement of the\u00a0Fifth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research<\/a>, which will take place in Liverpool, UK 8th-12th October 2018. The theme for the call is \u201cAdvancing health systems for all in the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) era<\/strong>\u201d which is also the\u00a0theme of the Sy<\/a>mposium. 5. Our Co-Editor-In-Chief, Dr Virginia Wiseman is also taking part in a skills-building session on\u00a0Innovative methodologies for global health systems strengthening.\u00a0<\/strong>An introduction to two major areas of health systems and policy research: equity analysis, and implementation design and evaluation of complex interventions. Participants will gain an understanding of approaches that go beyond typical frameworks and are mindful of the political, economic, social, and cultural sensitivities involved in health system reform. Taking place on Tuesday 9th October in Exhibition Centre Room 19 at 1pm.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
