It supports practices that make it easier to: share and reuse research outputs, verify research findings, and collaborate across disciplines and institutions<\/p>\n<p>You can learn more about LSHTM\u2019s open research activities and resources on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lshtm.ac.uk\/research\/open-research\">Open Research<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lshtm.sharepoint.com\/sites\/intranet-library-archive-and-open-research-services\/SitePages\/Open-Science.aspx\">Open Science<\/a> guidance pages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Is an Open Research Champion?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An&nbsp;Open Research Champion&nbsp;is a volunteer who actively promotes open research within a specific LSHTM community, such as a department, research centre, course module, or other peer group.<\/p>\n<p>Champions form a supportive network across LSHTM, working together to raise awareness and build capacity for open research.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who Can Join?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The network is open to&nbsp;all LSHTM staff and students&nbsp;with an interest in open research. You don\u2019t need to be an expert\u2014just enthusiastic and willing to contribute a few hours each month.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re interested, please discuss it with your team or supervisor and complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/e\/0pN2mucSbk\">Expression of Interest form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why Become an Open Research Champion?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As an Open Research Champion, you\u2019ll have the opportunity to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Learn new skills and broaden your understanding of open research<\/li>\n<li>Expand your professional network within and beyond LSHTM<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate on open research initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Enhance your CV &#8211; your contributions to internal citizenship can be included in your staff profile, PDR, and promotion applications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What Does a Champion Do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Champions are encouraged to lead or support activities that promote open research in their communities. These might include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Writing blog posts or case studies about open practices in your research<\/li>\n<li>Sharing relevant open research resources with colleagues<\/li>\n<li>Giving presentations or talks at meetings and seminars<\/li>\n<li>Organising events or workshops on open research topics<\/li>\n<li>Helping to improve LSHTM\u2019s open research support and guidance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How Are Open Research Champions Supported?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Open Research Champions are supported by the Open Research Working Group to help them to build their knowledge and expertise on open research. This takes the form of:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Access to training and development opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Peer support and networking through the Champion community<\/li>\n<li>Guidance on how to share knowledge and promote open research effectively<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Are Open Research Champions evaluated?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Open Research Champions are not formally assessed on their contribution, but we do ask for regular updates on your activities so we can share your work more widely.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Join<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Recruitment takes place once a year through an open call. Champions are typically appointed for&nbsp;12 months, with the option to extend up to&nbsp;3 years.<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in becoming an Open Research Champion for your community, please discuss it with your team or supervisor and complete the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/e\/0pN2mucSbk\">Expression of Interest form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Programme Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Open Research Champions Network is managed by the&nbsp;Research Data Manager&nbsp;in the&nbsp;Library, Archive &amp; Open Research Services (LOARS).
