It closed in 2012, leaving behind many thousands of photographic prints, negatives and \u2018blocks\u2019: tiny samples encapsulated in resin, each with a unique identifier and housed in an individual box.<\/p>\n<p>This material was accompanied by many record books and catalogues listing samples and negatives, dating back to 1959.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"345\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2025\/08\/1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10097\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2025\/08\/1.jpg 480w, https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2025\/08\/1-300x216.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>\u2018Block No.1, Dec. 1959.
