{"id":1064,"date":"2014-11-04T17:20:41","date_gmt":"2014-11-04T17:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/?p=1064"},"modified":"2014-11-04T17:20:41","modified_gmt":"2014-11-04T17:20:41","slug":"securing-access-ejournals-long-term","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/2014\/11\/04\/securing-access-ejournals-long-term\/","title":{"rendered":"Securing access to eJournals for the long-term"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2014\/11\/portico.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1065\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2014\/11\/portico.png\" alt=\"portico\" width=\"190\" height=\"176\" \/><\/a>The Library &amp; Archives Service has subscribed to the Portico E-Journal Preservation Service.<\/p>\n<p>Portico works with publishers and libraries to preserve eJournal content and associated metadata.\u00a0 Journal content is transferred to Portico,\u00a0with all descriptive metadata and structured full-text transformed to an archival format.\u00a0 Content is regularly validated and audited.\u00a0 Although the archive is &#8216;dark&#8217;, publishers and libraries can review the status of content.<\/p>\n<p>Content is made available to participating libraries when specific conditions, or &#8216;trigger events&#8217; occur which cause journal titles to no longer be available from the publisher or any other source.\u00a0 Trigger events can include a publisher ceasing business, a title being discontinued, back issues no longer being offered by a publisher, or failure of a publisher&#8217;s delivery platform.\u00a0\u00a0 Portico ensures continued access\u00a0for researchers.<\/p>\n<p>More than 920 libraries worldwide participate in Portico, and over 220 eJournal publishers have agreed to archive their titles with Portico.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Library &amp; Archives Service has subscribed to the Portico E-Journal Preservation Service.
