However, the impact of climate change is a global problem with some areas of the world being more vulnerable to its effects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/climate-change-and-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Health Organization<\/a>: \u2018<em>Despite contributing minimally to global emissions, low-income countries and small island developing states (SIDS) endure the harshest health impacts. In vulnerable regions, the death rate from extreme weather events in the last decade was 15 times higher than in less vulnerable ones\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"542\" height=\"361\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2026\/07\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2026\/07\/image-1.png 542w, https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2026\/07\/image-1-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 542px) 100vw, 542px\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Photo via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodfreephotos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.goodfreephotos.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Climate change is increasingly affecting human health by changing environmental conditions and increasing the frequency and severity of extreme weather events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main cause of climate change is from humans burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas. This leads to environmental pollution, large rises in temperature and extreme weather events. The consequences of climate change can be both direct and indirect and include forced displacement and loss of livelihood, food and water insecurity, poverty and harm to health and health care systems, increased poor mental health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A small selection of books on climate change are currently on display in the Library\u2019s Reading Room.
