{"id":3943,"date":"2017-09-25T01:00:56","date_gmt":"2017-09-25T01:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/?p=3943"},"modified":"2017-09-27T10:26:43","modified_gmt":"2017-09-27T10:26:43","slug":"library-information-skills-training-for-new-students-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/2017\/09\/25\/library-information-skills-training-for-new-students-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Library Information Skills Training for new students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A warm welcome to all our new students \u2013 we look forward to supporting in your studies this year!<\/p>\n<p>There is a lot of information for new arrivals to take in during orientation week.\u00a0 When you have had a chance to catch your breath, come along to the Library any time\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lshtm.sharepoint.com\/Services\/library\/Pages\/opening-hours.aspx\">when we are open\u00a0<\/a>\u2013 all the staff here will be happy to help you with anything related to our\u00a0study facilities, information resources\u00a0and\u00a0information skills training.<\/p>\n<p>To make sure that you can hit the ground running, you should\u00a0attend our\u00a0<strong>Foundation skills classes<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>in weeks 1 and 2.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>These classes are aimed at Masters level students, but anybody is welcome to attend.\u00a0 The classes are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Foundation 1: Finding items on your reading list &amp; citing them in an assignment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This class will give you an introduction to the Library, help you to decipher your reading list, find and access print and electronic material in the Library, and avoid plagiarism in your written work.<\/p>\n<p>This class is offered twice a day from\u00a0<strong>Monday 2 October \u2013 Friday 6 October<\/strong>, at\u00a0<strong>1pm-2pm <\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>5:30pm-6:30pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0Foundation 2: Effective literature searching in Google and PubMed<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This class provides an introduction to literature searching skills, helping you to search more effectively and efficiently.<\/p>\n<p>This class is offered twice a day from\u00a0<strong>Monday 9 October \u2013 Friday 13 October<\/strong>, at\u00a0<strong>1pm-2pm <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>5:30pm-6:30pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>All of the classes are held in the Library.<\/p>\n<p>You only need to come to one session of each class, whenever is most convenient for you.
