\"librarylogo\"<\/a>The School Library has been selected to contribute to the UK Medical Heritage Library digitisation project, joint funded by the Wellcome Library and JISC. The project aims to create high quality digital scans of 19th century medical books and pamphlets which will be available for everyone to use under a creative commons license. The images will be available to view and download on the Wellcome Library website and the Open Archives website. The School will receive copies to mount on our own systems and provide links from the Library Catalogue. It is anticipated that the first images will be available within the next 6-9 months.<\/p>\n

The project accepts books and pamphlets published from 1780-1914 and so will make available many seminal early works in infectious disease, sanitation and health, including titles by Jenner, Snow, Laveran, Ross, Chadwick and Manson. The project will complement the existing US Medical Heritage Library<\/a> which includes items from the libraries of Harvard, Yale, and the US National Library of Medicine amongst others. Jane Falconer is leading the project for the School and she is meeting colleagues from the Wellcome Library in the coming weeks to begin the project.
