{"id":6172,"date":"2019-04-12T13:38:53","date_gmt":"2019-04-12T13:38:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/?p=6172"},"modified":"2019-04-12T14:08:36","modified_gmt":"2019-04-12T14:08:36","slug":"access-to-usp-nf-and-food-chemicals-codex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/2019\/04\/12\/access-to-usp-nf-and-food-chemicals-codex\/","title":{"rendered":"Access to USP-NF and Food Chemicals Codex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do you need information on the quality, safety and benefit of medicines and foods?\u00a0 The U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) is a compendium of drug information published by the United States Pharmacopeial Convention (also known as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usp.org\/\">USP<\/a>).\u00a0 The USP is published in a combined volume with the National Formulary as the USP-NF. If a drug ingredient or drug product meets the USP quality standard then it will have a USP-NF monograph.\u00a0 The USP also establishes standards for food ingredients and dietary supplement products, which can be found in the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC).\u00a0The standards set out in the USP-NF and FCC are used by regulatory agencies and manufacturers to ensure their products are of the correct strength, quality, purity, and consistency.<\/p>\n<p>Ensuring high quality, safe medicines is essential for improving global health.\u00a0 Drug resistance is growing, and counterfeit medicines can kill.\u00a0 By promoting quality medicines, the USP seeks to decrease the prevalence of substandard medicines, curb antimicrobial resistance, and protect people worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>All current LSHTM staff and students can have access to USP-NF and FCC by creating an individual account, using their LSHTM email address.\u00a0 Once an account is set up, readers can log in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uspnf.com\/\">here<\/a> to access the publications.\u00a0\u00a0Guidance on creating an account and gaining access can be found by clicking on the USP Academic Connection link on the Library &amp;
