{"id":6568,"date":"2019-11-25T15:57:50","date_gmt":"2019-11-25T15:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/?p=6568"},"modified":"2019-11-25T15:57:50","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T15:57:50","slug":"lunchtime-sessions-literature-searching","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/2019\/11\/25\/lunchtime-sessions-literature-searching\/","title":{"rendered":"Lunchtime sessions: Literature Searching"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>InfoSkills Lunchtime sessions: Literature Searching &#8211; book now!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>From Mon 2<sup>nd<\/sup> December to Fri 6<sup>th<\/sup> December. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Book a place on any session at<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.do\/infoskills\">http:\/\/bit.do\/infoskills<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p>Who should attend:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MSC students who do not have literature searching sessions scheduled in your MSc programme timetable: please sign up these sessions.<\/li>\n<li>MSc students who have already had literature searching training and want to have a refresher session, you are also welcome to sign up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT: if you have a library \/ literature searching session as part of your MSc programme coming up (e.g. Public Health, FPHN, PH4D, TMIH, HPPF) then please attend your course programme sessions instead as these will be targeted to your subject areas: so you do not need to attend these lunchtime sessions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>These sessions are repeated on each day. You can choose to attend Part 1 and Part 2 on the same day as a two-hour session, or attend Part 1 on one day and then Part two on another day. Just choose whichever approach works best for your timetable!<\/p>\n<p>The Lunchtime InfoSkills Sessions cover:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Constructing a Literature Search Strategy. Part 1<\/strong>: search concepts, search terms &amp; building your search:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Selecting search concepts &amp; keywords\/search terms<\/li>\n<li>Choosing the right resources to search (OVID Medline will be the main database used in these sessions)<\/li>\n<li>Using Boolean logic to structure an effective search<\/li>\n<li>How to use search tools (including\u00a0truncation, wildcards and proximity searching)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Constructing a Literature Search Strategy. Part 2<\/strong>: subject headings, filters, transferring your search:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Subject headings: what are they? Why do\u00a0you need to use them?
