{"id":7169,"date":"2022-04-28T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-28T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/?p=7169"},"modified":"2024-03-25T16:30:57","modified_gmt":"2024-03-25T16:30:57","slug":"literature-searching-refresher-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/2022\/04\/28\/literature-searching-refresher-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Effective Literature Searching: &#8216;refresher&#8217; training sessions for MSc students &#8211; booking now available."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>These take place on: <\/strong><br \/>Tuesday 17th May 09:00 to 11:00<br \/>Wednesday 18th May 15:30 to 17:30<br \/>Thursday 19th May 13:00 to 15:00<\/p>\n<p>Monday 27th June 13:00 to 15:00<br \/>Tuesday 28th June 09:00 to 11:00<br \/>Wednesday 29th June 15:30 to 17:30<br \/>Thursday 30th June 11:30 to 13:30<\/p>\n<p>All the above session are the same &#8211;<strong> you only need to book on one session.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW TO BOOK<\/strong><br \/><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> please book a place on any session at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/studentbookings.lshtm.ac.uk\/index.php\/courses\/library\">https:\/\/studentbookings.lshtm.ac.uk\/index.php\/courses\/library<\/a>&nbsp;(all times are BST).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2: <\/strong>to join a Zoom session <strong>on the day<\/strong>, go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ble.lshtm.ac.uk\/course\/view.php?id=88&amp;section=4\">Library&#8217;s Moodle page<\/a> on the date you have booked for and click on the Zoom link for that session.<\/p>\n<p>The Zoom links are listed here: <a href=\"https:\/\/ble.lshtm.ac.uk\/course\/view.php?id=88&amp;section=4\">https:\/\/ble.lshtm.ac.uk\/course\/view.php?id=88&amp;section=4<\/a><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Who should attend:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MSc students (both &#8216;intensive&#8217; &amp; &#8216;distance learning&#8217; programmes) who did not have literature searching sessions scheduled in your MSc Programme timetable: please sign up these sessions.<\/li>\n<li>MSc students who have already attended an Effective Literature Searching training session, and want to have a refresher session, you are also welcome to sign up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>NB: if you have attended a literature searching session as part of your MSc Programme, you might prefer to re-watch the recording of that session on your Programme&#8217;s Moodle page<\/strong>, or the MSc Public Health recording on the <a href=\"https:\/\/ble.lshtm.ac.uk\/course\/view.php?id=88\">Library Moodle page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These sessions are repeated on each day listed above. Just choose whichever session works best for your timetable \/ timezone.<\/p>\n<p>The Refresher Sessions cover:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Constructing a Literature Search Strategy. Part 1<\/strong>: search concepts, search terms &amp; building your search:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Selecting search concepts &amp; keywords\/search terms<\/li>\n<li>Choosing the right resources to search (OVID Medline will be the main database used in these sessions)<\/li>\n<li>Using Boolean logic to structure an effective search<\/li>\n<li>How to use search tools (including&nbsp;truncation, wildcards and proximity searching)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Constructing a Literature Search Strategy. Part 2<\/strong>: subject headings, filters, transferring your search:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Subject headings: what are they? Why do&nbsp;you need to use them? How do&nbsp;you include them in&nbsp;your search strategy?<\/li>\n<li>Using search filters and limits<\/li>\n<li>Running your search &amp; transferring it across databases<\/li>\n<li>Finding full text \u2013 what if LSHTM library doesn\u2019t have what I need?<\/li>\n<li>Planning &amp;
