World Population Day was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. It was inspired by the public interest in Five Billion Day on July 11, 1987, the approximate date on which the world&#8217;s population reached six billion people. According to the United Nations, world population reached 7 Billion on October 31, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Overpopulation is a crucial issue, especially considering that world resources are depleting at an unsustainable rate. Awareness about the effects of overpopulation on development and nature is emphasized. The increasing population also sheds light on health problems faced by women during pregnancy and childbirth, making the need for family planning, gender equality, and maternal health more important than ever.\u00a0 To raise awareness you are invited to share your views via a blog or other social platform on how to take precautions and combat population issues. <a href=\"https:\/\/nationaltoday.com\/world-population-day\/\">WORLD POPULATION DAY &#8211; July 11, 2022 &#8211; National Today<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Library collections contain print and online resources on the topic of world hunger, nutrition and global food policy. Resources can be found by searching in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/lshtm.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/search?vid=44HYG_INST:44HYG_VU1\">Library\u2019s search tool,&nbsp;Discover<\/a>. Print books on these subjects can be found in the Reading Room, shelf mark ZY09.
