Theophilus Lobb, M.D.  was a Fellow of the Royal Society (1678-1763). His biography makes interesting reading (1). Born to a pastor of independent dissenters in London, his education and career combined ministry with the practice of medicine. This however caused some disquiet among his congregations, until in 1736 he decided to give up his religious duties<\/p>\n

The first part of the \u201cTreatise\u201d deals with symptoms and causes, the second with cases, remedies and management of smallpox in children. All paragraphs are numbered and there is a comprehensive index.<\/p>\n

The book was presented to LSHTM library in 1930 by Dr H.A. Macewen (1880-1950), former senior Medical Officer at the Ministry of Health, who contributed a number of titles to the Reece Collection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
