{"id":9330,"date":"2024-07-08T11:02:26","date_gmt":"2024-07-08T11:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/?p=9330"},"modified":"2024-07-08T11:24:29","modified_gmt":"2024-07-08T11:24:29","slug":"cruk-registered-reports-seminar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/2024\/07\/08\/cruk-registered-reports-seminar\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Research seminar: Cancer Research UK\u2019s Registered Reports Funding Partnership: lessons to improve research quality, transparency and reproducibility"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>THURSDAY JULY 18, 2024. 12:00\u201313:00 BST<\/strong><br \/>Attendance Link: <a href=\"https:\/\/lshtm.zoom.us\/j\/99442400497\">https:\/\/lshtm.zoom.us\/j\/99442400497<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This online seminar will introduce <a href=\"https:\/\/osf.io\/8v2n7\">Registered Reports<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerresearchuk.org\/funding-for-researchers\/how-we-deliver-research\/positive-research-culture\/registered-reports\">new pathway<\/a> being piloted at Cancer Research UK (CRUK) to submit Registered Reports to journals for peer review, alongside the grant application and review process. CRUK\u2019s unique pilot is being performed in consortium with 12 journals and the University of Bristol.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees will gain an understanding of Registered Reports, the rationale for CRUK\u2019s pilot, how the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cancerresearchuk.org\/funding-for-researchers\/how-we-deliver-research\/positive-research-culture\/registered-reports\">Registered Reports Funding Partnership<\/a> pathway works and the process for preparing a report for publication. The seminar will share different consortium partner perspectives and requirements \u2013 from a publisher, a funder and an academic institution \u2013 and highlight insights, feedback from researchers about opting-into to the pilot, advice on putting together a report and how to avoid common pitfalls.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The seminar will comprise a 20-minute talk, followed by Q&amp;A and open discussion. Attendees are encouraged to raise questions on all aspects of research registration with the team from Cancer Research UK, Nature Communications and the University of Bristol and LSHTM\u2019s Open Research team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bio<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nathalie Le Bot is the editorial director overseeing the Nature Communications teams responsible for articles in health and clinical sciences as well as human behaviour at the journal. She has a keen interest in initiatives aimed at increasing transparency in publishing and reproducibility of published research findings, which the registered reports format aim to enhance. <\/p>\n<p>Dr Jackie Thompson is a senior research associate at the University of Bristol, focusing on meta-research projects. Her main research interests are evaluating interventions to improve funding and publishing systems, and better understanding what responsible research means across disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>Sue Russell is Cancer Research UK\u2019s Senior Policy &amp; Governance Manager responsible for overseeing funding governance, grant conditions and policies for research funded by the charity. She aims to promote positive research culture and leads on CRUK\u2019s research integrity initiatives and coordinates its Registered Reports Funding Partnership pilot consortium.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LSHTM Open Research seminar series<\/strong><br \/>This event has been organised by the LSHTM Open Research workstream.
