Open Alex pulls in millions more open access outputs than other commercial sources due to where it collects it\u2019s data from.<\/p>\n<p>The main benefits of Open Alex are:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Huge datasets, more than Scopus, PubMed or Web of Science.<\/li>\n<li>Citations are more discoverable as they are contained in one place<\/li>\n<li>The dataset can be pulled into Elements so more outputs can be claimed by LSHTM authors<\/li>\n<li>Institutions can measure their outputs against peers<\/li>\n<li>Metadata can be produced on each work to understand what the research is about.<\/li>\n<li>Open Alex can classify scholarly works, so they are linked by topic, subject or research type<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2025\/04\/openAlexResult.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2025\/04\/openAlexResult-1024x490.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9912\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2025\/04\/openAlexResult-1024x490.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2025\/04\/openAlexResult-300x144.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2025\/04\/openAlexResult-768x367.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2025\/04\/openAlexResult-1536x735.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2025\/04\/openAlexResult-730x350.jpg 730w, https:\/\/blogs.lshtm.ac.uk\/library\/files\/2025\/04\/openAlexResult.jpg 1791w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>It works by pulling together all the research outputs;
