The STAR Initiative is funded by Unitaid, with implementation led by Population Services International (self-test kit distribution, including all marketing and demand creation activities in Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Swaziland) and Society for Family Health South Africa (in South Africa), in close collaboration with the World Health Organization and consortium partners. Research activities are designed and led by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, and University College London.
In-country HIV self-testing research activities are led by local research institutions: Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme, Zambart, the Centre for Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS Research Zimbabwe, and the Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute.
The management and structure of teams within the STAR Research consortium is shown in this summary.
