Celebrate Love Data Week 2025 with us!

Love Data Week is here, and it’s time to celebrate the power of data! Whether you’re a data enthusiast, a curious student, or just looking to learn something new, the Library, Archive & Open Research Services has a great line-up of events to help you dive into the world of data. Check out the following training events.

Preparing a Data Management Plan For your Research Degree Project

Tue 11-Feb 2025 @ 10:00 – 11.30am (UK time)

This online session is aimed at LSHTM Research degree students who need to prepare a Data Management Plan for inclusion in their Upgrade or Review report. The session will provide students with a better understanding of:

  • The role of data management planning in research.
  • LSHTM expectations for data management and the structure of LSHTM’s DMP template.
  • The key decisions that must be made when acquiring, processing, analysing, processing, storing, and sharing their research data.

Session has now ended. Visit the Doctoral Transferrable Skills page for future events.

Starting a Research Grant at LSHTM – things you should know in the first year

Wed 12-Feb 2025 @ 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (UK time)

It doesn’t sound very data-centric, does it? But appearances can be deceiving. This session explores the practicalities of setting up your research project after it has been funded, including how you work with research assets at each stage. The session covers several topics:

  • Naomi Panteli in the Research Governance & Integrity team will discuss the legal and ethical regulations that apply to health research and how you can develop processes and procedures to address these.
  • Kate Perris in the Library, Archive & Open Research Services will explore some of the databases, tools and techniques that can be used to perform a literature review in a research project.
  • Finally, Gareth Knight of the Library, Archive & Open Research Services will outline the key issues that must be taken into account to keep information secure at each stage of the research lifecycle.

Session has now ended. Visit the TED and Doctoral Transferrable Skills page for future events.

Planning for Data Sharing

Thu 13-Feb-2025 @ 10:00 – 11.30am (UK time)

This online session is aimed at researchers who wish to develop a data sharing strategy for their research project. The session will explore how participants can:

  • Identify and select research outputs suitable for sharing (and those that are not)
  • Prepare data for sharing in a form that fulfils sharing requirements, maintains participant confidentiality, and can be used for verification/reuse purposes.
  • Allocate staff time and other resources to the task, avoiding the situation where you have to do everything after funding has ended.
  • The role of FAIR sharing and different repositories available to host research outputs

Session has now ended: Visit the TED Staff bookings, Doctoral Transferrable Skills and Bloomsbury Postgraduate Skills Network for details of future events.

Love Data Week is a fantastic opportunity to expand your knowledge, speak with like-minded individuals, and celebrate the incredible world of data. We hope to see you at these events!
