Planning for Data Sharing

Make data sharing easier before your project ends. This session will help you:

  • Decide which research outputs are suitable to share
  • Establish how to share data in a way that protects participant confidential and makes it easy to understand and reuse.
  • Plan staff time and resources so you’re not rushing at the end of the project
  • Understand FAIR principles and choose the right repository

Preparing a Data Management Plan For your Research Degree Project [online]

This session is aimed at LSHTM Research degree students who need to prepare a LSHTM Data Management Plan for their Upgrade or Review report. We’ll walk you through what LSHTM expects and how to build a clear, practical plan. It will explore:

  • The role of Data Management Plans in performing high‑quality, reproducible research
  • The key areas that must be considered when completing your data management plan
  • How to identify and resolve data management challenges in your research.

Starting a Research Grant at LSHTM – things you should know in the first year

Friday 13-Feb 2026 @ 10:00 – 11.30am (UK time)

It may not sound like a data session, but this is one you don’t want to miss. This session explores the practicalities of setting up a research project following funding confirmation, including how to work with research assets at each stage.

Lyndsay Kirby, Head of Research Finance, will discuss the workflow for setting up a project in the LSHTM system and support provided by Research Operations. Key topics covered include how to fulfill

  • Financial considerations, such as contract budgets, payment terms, recruitment, and subcontracting
  • Compliance requirements, such as due diligence, conflict of interest, and Data & IP Ownership.

Gareth Knight, Research Data Manager of the Library, Archive & Open Research Services, will explain how you can keep information secure throughout your research. This will explore:

  • Key data protection legislation to consider
  • The role of Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
  • How to classify research files and use it to select suitable storage systems
  • How to protect research files when working with collaborators.
