If you are away from the Internet or if the School does not subscribe to a particular journal students and researchers are able to benefit from an initiative to provide walk-in access to a wide range of academic articles and research in public libraries across the UK.
Following a successful technical trial in the autumn of 2013, the Access to Research initiative was launched in January 2014. The two-year pilot is a joint enterprise organised by the Publishers Licensing Society on behalf of publishers, and the Society of Chief Librarians. The pilot currently covers over 1.5 million articles from 8,400 journals from all the leading publishers.
Subjects include art, architecture, business, engineering, history, languages, politics, philosophy, mathematics and the sciences. All content provided is digital but can only be accessed from a designated library terminal, via a search delivery service called Summon.
A list of journals that are available is here http://eg9wt9kh6b.search.serialssolutions.com/ and participating libraries http://www.accesstoresearch.org.uk/libraries including seven London Boroughs is also listed.
Happy researching – in our public libraries.
