We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to join the NIHR School for Public Health research team at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) to work on a programme of research focused on evaluating local level interventions and policies.

The candidate should have experience in doing primary quantitative analysis and systematic reviews and be educated to postgraduate level in a relevant subject and have an excellent record of research and peer-reviewed publications. They should also have an understanding, and experience of researching public health interventions and/or public health policy (including research relating to social determinants of health) with experience of working in a UK Local Government or local public health settings being particularly desirable. Candidates will be expected to contribute to a wide programme of work addressing local public health evaluation challenges in close collaboration with colleagues from the NIHR School of Public Health Research, and to work with communities and/or colleagues in local government in developing and delivering such evaluations. The main focus of the work will quantitative: both primary research and systematic reviews, but may include other forms of research, as appropriate, relevant to SPHR@L’s themes including alcohol, community empowerment, research methods and other themes that arise through the programme of work. No prior knowledge of policies in and around these themes is required but the candidate should have a wide range of experience in conducting mixed methods evaluations in natural policy settings.

The appointment will be full time, commencing in early January 2015 until 31st March 2016, and will be based in LSHTM’s Tavistock Place campus in Bloomsbury, London.

Appointment will be subject to LSHTM terms and conditions, including membership of the Universities Superannuation Scheme, an annual leave allowance of 30 days pro rata plus 6 fixed ‘Director’s Days’ and season ticket loan.

Salary will be on the Research Fellow scale £37,106 to £42,139 pa (inclusive of London Weighting) (as at 1 Aug 2014). Relocation expenses will be payable in accordance with School policy.
