WHO IS SETTING UP THE GROUP?
Researchers at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the University of Oxford, whose research interests are around alcohol and local licensing.
WHAT IS THE DISCUSSION GROUP FOR?
We would like your views on alcohol in the context of your local community, as well as your thoughts on some of our projects, current alcohol policy, and how we engage the public with our research.
WHO CAN ATTEND?
Residents of Camden borough who have an interest in social issues relating to alcohol and the local area. We are interested in speaking to occasional or regular local drinkers and also those who do not drink alcohol but are interested/ affected by alcohol behaviours or regulation in their community. All participants must be aged 18 years or over.
ABOUT THE MEETING
The meeting will take place on Thursday 26th May 2016 at Cecil Sharp House, Camden (address above). Food and refreshments will be served from 5.30pm, the meeting will start at 6pm and finish around 8pm.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?
As a thank you for spending a couple of hours of your time with us attendees will receive £25 worth of shopping vouchers (only if selected to attend, and actually attend on the day).
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
If this sounds like something you would like to be involved in, please fill out this short online form so that we can ensure a variety of people will attend. We can accommodate up to 20 in total so applying does not guarantee a place.
If you have already applied, you do not need to re-apply, we will contact you directly about the meeting if you are selected.
WHAT IS THE GROUP NOT ABOUT?
The group is not about you personally or what you drink, and you will not need to disclose any such details to other group members. The group is not a self-help or support group for people with alcohol problems and if you wish to get help with an alcohol problem, we would recommend that you access local services by visiting Integrated Camden Alcohol Service or calling on 020 3227 4950.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I SIGN UP?
After completing and submitting the short online form, we may call you to confirm that you are still interested and available. Once your place is confirmed, further details regarding the meeting will be sent to you by email or post. We may ask participants to come along with some pre-prepared thoughts on paper (no more than 200 words) about key issues they would like to bring along and discuss at the meeting.
WHAT WILL THE UNIVERSITY DO WITH MY INFORMATION GIVEN ON THE FORM?
This information is treated as confidential and will be stored on a secure computer database. The LSHTM will collect, store and use the data you have supplied only for the discussion group. By giving this information you consent to all such personal information being made available to researchers and administrative staff at the LSHTM and individuals developing and delivering the alcohol discussion group on behalf of the university. Except where disclosure is required by law, we are legally required to keep your details confidential and secure for the duration of your time on the discussion group and all identifying details you have supplied will be destroyed when the group is no longer meeting or if you are no longer part of the group.
