Who you are?
I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Dynamics. My work focuses on statistical modelling, nowcasting and forecasting, and real-time analysis, alongside open-source tool development to support timely public health decision-making. Before joining LSHTM, I worked across academic and public health settings, including the UT COVID-19 Modelling Consortium, the Rockefeller Foundation’s Pandemic Prevention Institute, and the CDC’s Centre for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics. My research explores how model design and diverse surveillance inputs, such as wastewater, can improve forecasting performance, with an emphasis on accessibility and reproducibility for local health authorities and other end users.
Interest in open research
I strongly believe that open research and reproducible science can improve accessibility and translation of scientific advances into real-world practice. By developing open source tools and doing code development in the open, I believe we can break down barriers between statistical and mathematical modelling and public health practice. Additionally, since much of my work focuses on real-time modelling and outbreak analysis, I think it is critical to demonstrate a decision record and create workflows that enable reproducibility of the data and situation that was available as of a specific point in time. This can help facilitate proper evaluation and therefore accelerate the development of improved methods.
Area of expertise
I am in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology & Dynamics and am a member of the Centre for Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases. I am part of the epiforecasts group led by Sebastian Funk, where our groups work focuses on real-time forecasting and nowcasting and evaluation of these outputs, with an emphasis on open science, reproducibility, and software development best practices.
Who you are?
I am a Research Fellow in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Dynamics and a member of the Centre for Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases. I am currently developing an open-source modelling framework to evaluate targeted non-pharmaceutical interventions (e.g. contact tracing) in the early stages of an epidemic or pandemic. Prior to this, I was a Research Software Engineer working on the Epiverse project at LSHTM, developing an ecosystem of digital public good R packages for outbreak analytics.
Interest in open research
Science should be transparent. The conclusions we draw from our research — and their influence on public health at regional, national, and global scales — should be auditable. Many aspects of this challenge have been highlighted by the reproducibility crisis. I am committed to enabling reproducibility not only through code sharing but also by using open-source tools that support those who wish to scrutinise and reproduce results (e.g. through reproducible environments). In addition, developing models openly enables others to provide feedback, improving the quality and accuracy of methods (often referred to as Linus’s Law).

I am a member of Adam Kucharski’s research group. I have developed tools with a strong focus on usability, while adhering to software development best practice (e.g. robust testing and comprehensive documentation).
Who you are?
I am an Assistant Professor in Statistics and Environmental Epidemiology broadly interested in how environmental stressors impact human health, especially in a climate change context. My work focuses on the development and practical use of statistical methods to estimate risks of health outcomes related to air pollution and temperatures among others, as well as health impact assessments.
Interest in open research
My objective is to champion open research practices within the field of environmental epidemiology, a field where, due to limitations in the sharing of sensitive health data, research results can be difficult to access for public health officials or fellow scientists. I strongly believe that open research practices can both enhance and accelerate crucial research and am trying to actively promote best practices within the ethical limitations inherent to public health research.
Area of expertise
In the group I am part of (Environment & Health Modelling Lab at LSHTM) we have acquired experience in code sharing and the hosting of curated research results on public archives. We have developed strategies to share intermediate results to allow as much reproducibility as possible.
