11th to 17th May is Mental Health Awareness Week nationally and at LSHTM. The Mental Health Foundation has been organising Mental Health Awareness Week for the last twenty-five years. They focus on preventing poor mental health and building and protecting good mental health. They research, develop, and campaign for new and more effective ways to support and protect people’s good mental health. Another organisation that supports mental health is MIND.
LSHTM library has a book swap collection which is located opposite the Library Enquiries Desk and is provided by LAORS. It has the aim of fostering a culture of wellbeing through reading, promoting community engagement, and facilitating the exchange of books among LSHTM staff and students, external members and visitors. There is no requirement to deposit a book to take one, but deposits are very welcome.
Reading can significantly boost mental health by reducing stress, enhancing empathy, improving cognitive function, and supporting emotional well-being. Students are invited to visit and browse our collection. The print collection includes fiction, biographies and non-fiction books (excluding textbooks). Links to freely available eBook collections are also listed on Service Desk. Further information on the service can be found here at Service Desk.
